Do you find it hard to stick to your career goals?

Success go get it

Creating success with your career goals

Struggling to make them, we all have at one point or another.

To help you in this we have created a list of tips and tricks that will help you to overcome your slow patch or keep that focus.

The first step that I find helpful is to set specific and tangible goals. If you cannot clearly and simply explain what you are aiming to achieve how are you going to get there?.

When you have your goals, break them down into short and long term goals. This way you start to achieve small victories or milestones on the way to that big dream.

Writing down your goals you will be able to see your progress. Also there is nothing more satisfying than being about to cross them off as you achieve them.

This next part is one that most people skip over, but I think it is really important to reward yourself when you achieve a small goal. This could be getting a promotion or completing that diploma to help you advance, whatever it is, make sure you take time out to celebrate, you are one step closer to your end goal. Well done.

You also need to remember that there will be tough times, where everything seems to be going wrong or your boss just seems to miss all the extra hard work you have been doing. Just stick with it, he might be seeing more than you think and even if he is not others are and it shows your enthusiasm for your job, stick with it. Remembering as Thomas Jefferson said, “I’m a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more luck I seem to have.”

Remember not every job will be great. I once spent nearly a year in a job that I did not like, I worked longer hours than needed just to make sure everything was done. It was never noticed which annoyed me some days but I stuck with it as it was good experience, then one day I was put in touch with a good connection which lead to my next job. I was out of there within two months and into a job I loved. It was so worth it.

This leads to my next point, always keep an eye out for opportunities, you never know what can happen any given day. If I had not been actively listening in to a conversation I never would have met that contact or heard that there was a position available. So always be open and actively listening.

I hope this helps you to stay focused on achieving your goals and if you have any other great ideas or stories please comment below and let me know.
